Community Grant Update: Winter 2020

In January 2020, $5000 was distributed for the second round of the Goose Creek Wind Community Grant to local Piatt County organizations. We decided to catch up with the Grant winners to see how the funding affected their projects.

Hope Lives Youth Ranch

HLYR was able to purchase and install a new water hydrant to help quench their horses' thirsts. The new hydrant location is closer to the barn, where previously in the winters the Ranch was forced to bring water from the house in heavy buckets due to their hydrant's piping freezing. We're happy to hear that water related risk of injury to students, volunteers, and employees has been thoroughly reduced.

The Piatt County Soil and Water Conservation District

We were provided with an update stating that "the Goose Creek Wind Community Grant will be used to help pay for GPS software equipment that will work with our drone. This will allow us to do more surveying, design, and help with the implementation of conservation practices with limited resources."

Dove Inc.

Dove Inc. allocated their funds to help support clients to free themselves from abusive relationships, creating a healthier and safer community, and enhancing the quality of life for all Piatt County residents. The Domestic Violence Program in Piatt County continues to provide clients with a sense of financial security on their journey to become more independent and self-sufficient, creating an avenue to free them from the abuse they have endured.

Shop With a Cop

Monticello's Police Department was able to allocate funds towards its Shop with a Cop program. Shop with a Cop took 65 children Christmas shopping on Dec. 14, feeding them breakfast and giving out $100 gift cards for all participants, who used them at the Savoy Wal-Mart.

Apex Clean Energy is pleased to support educators, entrepreneurs, and changemakers in the Piatt County community. One small way we can do this is by giving back through the Goose Creek Wind Community Grant program. If you represent a group/organization similar to the ones above, or that meets one of our four key funding categories (Building Healthy Communities, Economic Development, Environmental Sustainability, Promoting Education), consider applying at https://www.goosecreekwind.com/grant.
